Cadet Vocational College Announces 2025 Westminster Award Winner at the House of Lords!

Dorset Army Cadet Force cadet, Charlotte Bedford, 17, from Wimborne, Dorset, has triumphed over thousands of other cadets to win the prestigious 2025 Cadet Vocational College Westminster Award.

Guy Horridge OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Cadet Vocational College, praised Charlotte’s dedication:

“Charlotte is a worthy winner of this year’s Westminster Award and I’m delighted for her, her family and Dorset ACF. The competition was tough, as it always is with so many excellent candidates, but Charlotte just had that extra something that means she is our winner this year. At a time when many young people are viewed less than favourably for many reasons, Charlotte epitomises what is good about young people, with her selfless commitment to her cadet organisation and other community activities.”

Charlotte was presented with the award by Lord Lingfield at a prestigious ceremony held at the House of Lords today (Thursday 11 September). Her selfless dedication to supporting younger cadets, whilst volunteering with the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, mentoring a student who was being bullied, and raising nearly £4,000 to take part in an international community project with Camp International highlighting her outstanding leadership skills.

In addition to Charlotte’s win, we are proud to announce that RAF Air Cadet Rishab Chatterjee, 18, from Grantham, was awarded the Lingfield Medal. Presented by Lord Lingfield, this medal recognises Rishab’s remarkable contributions to his community.

Guy Horridge OBE, commended Rishab’s efforts:

“Rishab represents the very best of what it means to be a Westminster Award finalist and is a worthy winner of the Lingfield Medal. He is not only an excellent cadet, he is extremely likable and his commitment to others make him a very good role model for his peers.”

We are also delighted to announce that Lisa Owen, 17, from Caroline Chisholm School CCF, Northampton, is the winner of the Cadet Vocational College ILM Award.

Guy Horridge OBE, praised Lisa’s resilience and commitment: “Lisa represents the very best of what it means to be a Westminster Award finalist. Her commitment to others, and her determination to overcome personal challenges make her an outstanding role model for her peers. Her qualification submission was excellent and she is worthy winner of the ILM Achievement Award.”

We are immensely proud of Charlotte, Rishab, Lisa and all the remarkable Westminster Award finalists.

Their achievements, passion, and dedication truly showcase the best of what young people can accomplish.
