Ian joined Cadet Vocational College in November 2013 and currently serves as Curriculum Manager for our ILM Level 3 in Leadership and Management qualification, a role he has held since September 2023.
His career began in the Army, having joined straight from school at the age of 16. Despite medical discharge, Ian went on to build extensive leadership and training experience across a range of sectors including outdoor pursuits, hotels and catering, and education. Before joining Cadet Vocational College, he also ran his own business delivering teamwork and communication skills in schools, alongside archery instruction.
Ian’s background in cadet forces is extensive. A former Cadet RSM, he has now volunteered with the Army Cadet Force for over 31 years. He spent 28 years with Wiltshire ACF, one year with Hampshire and Isle of Wight, and now plays an active role in adult training as a senior instructor on the Army Cadet Initial Officer Training (IOT) and King George VI Leadership (KGVI) courses.
Ian holds a wide range of qualifications including education and training, assessment and quality assurance, leadership and management, coaching and mentoring, and health and safety. He is also a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award assessor and a former first aid instructor, as well as a Member of the Institute of Leadership.
Outside of work, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He finds time to stay active, listen to music, and read – with a particular interest in history and leadership, always seeking to deepen his knowledge and understanding.
