Graham Simons

Graham is based in Cumbria and joined Cadet Vocational College in 2012. He became City & Guilds Manager in 2022, bringing with him over three decades of experience in education and a strong background in youth development and volunteering.

He studied Applied Biology at Cambridge University before going on to complete a PGCE. Graham then spent over 30 years working in the independent education sector, both in the UK and in Kenya. During this time, he held a variety of roles including Head of Science, Senior Boarding Housemaster, and Director of IT. Alongside his teaching responsibilities, he was actively involved in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and also led student expeditions to destinations such as Kenya, Iceland and Madagascar.

Graham’s volunteering journey began at the age of 11 when he joined the Scouts. He went on to become a Scout Leader and Venture Scout Leader, also taking on several district roles. He has also previously served as a Civilian Assistant with the CCF, maintaining his long-standing commitment to supporting young people’s personal growth and development.

In addition to his professional and volunteering roles, Graham is heavily involved in his local community. He is currently a churchwarden and volunteers with the Society of Genealogists, where he is helping with a large-scale indexing project. He also holds several other local volunteer positions.
