Chris Bushby

Chris was born and educated in Southampton before going on to study History at Newcastle University, graduating with a BA (Hons) in the 1980s. He later completed his PGCE at the University of Swansea, qualifying as a teacher after a placement at a school in Port Talbot. Following his training, he spent time working for PGL in the Ardèche region of France, gaining valuable experience in outdoor education.

He went on to enjoy a successful career in secondary education, where he spent over 20 years teaching History, PE, and a range of other subjects. As a member of the senior leadership team, he was also heavily involved in pastoral care. During this time, Chris took a well-earned year out to backpack around the world, broadening his horizons and gaining further insight into different cultures and communities.

After leaving the classroom, Chris worked with Lincolnshire County Council, leading volunteer programmes for sixth form students as part of the Millennium Volunteers initiative. He later joined Cadet Vocational College as a Schools Project Instructor, where his passion for working with young people continued to thrive.

Chris went on to manage a large team of CFAV instructors delivering the ILM Level 2 Young Leaders Award across the UK. He subsequently took on responsibility for the ILM Level 3 and Education and Training programmes before stepping into his current role as Teaching and Learning Manager for the BTEC Level 2 qualification. He has now been with Cadet Vocational College for over 10 years and remains dedicated to supporting young people in their personal development and career progression.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys travelling, walking his chocolate Labrador, and following the highs and lows of Southampton FC.
