We are thrilled to announce that Harry Rilett-Malborn, an 18-year-old Royal Navy Cadet from Phoenix Collegiate CCF in West Bromwich, has triumphed over thousands of other cadets to win the prestigious 2024 Cadet Vocational College Westminster Award.
Guy Horridge OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Cadet Vocational College, praised Harry’s dedication:
“Harry’s dedication to service, education, and community involvement exemplifies the very best qualities the Westminster Award seeks to recognise and celebrate in its young people. It was a really tough competition this year and all of the twelve finalists, who were chosen from thousands of eligible Cadet Vocational College learners, were outstanding candidates. Harry stood out during the arduous selection process, and he has distinguished himself through a wide range of volunteer efforts and leadership roles. He is a worthy winner of the 2024 Westminster Award.”
Harry was presented with the award by Lord Lingfield at a prestigious ceremony held at the House of Lords today (Thursday 12 September). His selfless dedication to helping others and creating lasting community impact through initiatives such as free homework and IT support sessions highlight his outstanding leadership.
In addition to Harry’s win, we are proud to announce that Ione Dickson, an 18-year-old St John Ambulance cadet from St Albans, was awarded the Lingfield Medal. Presented by Lord Lingfield, this medal recognises Ione’s remarkable contributions to her community.
Guy Horridge OBE commended Ione’s efforts:
“Ione’s ongoing dedication to volunteering, from her charity shop work to her musical outreach during the COVID-19 lockdown, exemplifies her commitment to community service and personal growth. Her roles in supporting a hospice, younger children in Junior Church, and providing companionship through her telephone concerts reflect her strong sense of community and compassion. These are all things that make her a worthy Westminster Award finalist and Lingfield Medal winner.”
We are also delighted to announce that Freyja Ferrier, a 17-year-old cadet from 308 (City of Colchester) Squadron RAFAC, is the winner of the Cadet Vocational College ILM Award.
Guy Horridge OBE praised Freyja’s resilience and commitment:
“Freyja has overcome significant challenges and her story is one of resilience and determination. Her focus on helping others, coupled with her empathy, problem-solving skills, and leadership abilities, makes her a worthy ILM Award winner.”
We are immensely proud of Harry, Ione, Freyja and all the remarkable Westminster Award finalists.
Their achievements, passion, and dedication truly showcase the best of what young people can accomplish.
